The City of New Rochelle, with a population of approximately 72,000 residents, is conveniently located 16 miles north of New York City. New Rochelle was founded in 1688 by the French Huguenots, is one of the oldest cities in the Northeast, and has 9 miles of spectacular shoreline along the Long Island Sound. • Both the Hutchinson River Parkway and I-95 provide easy access by car to New York City and to LaGuardia, Kennedy, and Westchester airports, and other points north and south.
• Served by both the Metro North New Rochelle Train Station and the Amtrak Station, which has train service up and down the northeast corridor.

Education

• The New Rochelle City School District serves more than 10,000 students from grades K-12.

• There are six neighborhood elementary schools for grades K-5: Columbus, George M. Davis, Jefferson, Trinity, William B. Ward, and Daniel Webster.

• The Barnard Early Childhood Center Magnet School is a challenging program offering a specially designed four-year sequence for elementary-age students.
• There are two neighborhood middle schools serving grades 6-8: Albert Leonard and Isaac Young. Special programs include accelerated math and science classes, exciting music and drama programs, and an accelerated biology program connected with Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.

• New Rochelle High School enrolls approximately 3400 students. Students may choose from an extensive array of honors, AP, and elective courses across all disciplines. New Rochelle also has a Performing and Visual Arts Education Program (PAVE) for students who wish to major in the arts, as well as other noteworthy programs.

• The impressive French-Gothic style high school is fronted by two lakes and Huguenot Park. Facilities include an indoor pool, 8 tennis courts, two football fields, and a planetarium.

• Colleges in the area include Iona College and the College of New Rochelle.

Recreation

• The New Rochelle Department of Parks and Recreation provides year-round programs in sports, cultural pursuits, and leisure activities for residents of all ages.• There are 35 parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and tot lots located City-wide, as well as a skateboard park. Some of the parks have scenic views of Long Island Sound. Others, like Huguenot Park, contain lakes that accommodate fishing and seasonal ice skating.
• There are beaches at Hudson Park and a small outdoor swimming pool with a water slide, wading pool The 15 public tennis courts are located at Pinebrook Tennis Center, Albert Leonard Middle School, and New Rochelle High School. There are 4 lit platform tennis courts at the Pinebrook location.
• There is a municipal marina with 350 boat slips, 150 moorings, and kayak storage.
